When people relate a product to luxury, dollar signs are the first things that come to mind. Why can't luxury be affordable before the clearance sale? Being environmentally conscious shouldn't make a consumer pay more in the hopes of helping our world sustain a better future. Things should be more be affordable. With Ro & Co's initiative, consumers now have a choice to find luxury quality alternative-to-leather, high quality products at affordable prices.

WHY VEGAN? According to researchers, the leather/livestock industry is the leading cause of global warming, deterioration of lands, pollution, and waste of natural resources, such as clean water. In America, cows and pigs in factory farms produce close to 90,000 pounds of excrement, which is contaminated with antibiotics and hormones that are pumped into these animals. Studies show that animal waste releases toxic airborne chemicals that can cause inflammatory, immune, and neurochemical complications in humans.

The skin of these animals is then used for leather while their meat is used for cooking. From beginning to end, the amount of energy used to produce leather hide is twenty times more than the energy used to create synthetic materials. Animal skin, that usually decomposes naturally, is sprayed by chemical toxins so that they will last for years with their use as the exterior of jackets, handbags, and accessories. Such toxins are a leading cause for the deterioration of the environment. With reports such as these, it should be common sense for people to become vegetarians or even vegans. Yet many do not find it practical. Ro & Co believes there is a missing link between what people currently have in their lives and what they believe they will lose if they change to a different lifestyle.

Potential vegans are often motivated by the opportunity to make a difference but sometimes fail to recognize how deeply their choices can make a difference to the environment and to society. The launch of Ro & Co has finally filled this gap.

Ro & Co has made its concept clear and has seen young men and women of all ages join this movement. Forget gimmicks to make you over-pay for vegan accessories, or companies that only offer poor-quality alternatives for vegan living. Ro & Co has positioned itself as the most suitable destination for those looking for affordable vegan accessories with a mix of unique materials, styles and colors to suit a wide variety of tastes. The inaugural Spring/Summer '10 Collection included over 32 styles for women in over four lines and 9 styles for men in over two lines. Fall/Winter '10/'11 has gone through the roof.

MATERIALS: Ro & Co fabrics are lead-free and are shedding away from PVC. The exterior and interior linings of Ro & Co products are made of synthetic materials and all of the bags are sturdy, easy to care for, and are suitable for vegans and vegetarians, as they contain no animal hide The hardware also contains very little nickel, as this metal is a cause of allergies in humans and should be in limited contact by human skin. By using these materials, Ro & Co has reduced its carbon footprint while allowing for innovation to triumph from the design room to your wardrobe.

MANUFACTURING: Ro & Co works only with individuals who add value to its products, from the creative design process to production and shipment. It has implemented rigorous quality control standards and strictly enforces applicable labour laws, with visits to its factories at least three times per year. Ro & Co also follows fair trade and fair wage practices, as well as making sure that its employees are properly trained before using the machinery in its factories.

Ro & Co ships all goods in the least amount of packaging possible to ensure that it reduces its use of cardboard and plastic, as well as the waste of fossil fuels by choosing the right shipping partners.

BENEVOLENCE: Why do something for yourself without giving back? Ro & Co has spread awareness on how becoming a vegetarian or a vegan contributes to the betterment of society. With events in the works, Ro & Co plans on hosting, donating, sponsoring and providing support to all those whose mission it is to provide an alternative form of living and lifestyle. In 2011, Ro is raising awareness with its sustainability partners to bring a renewed awareness of the benefits of a vegan and vegetarian lifestyle.
